Position
Summary:
The Education Manager plans, organizes and oversees effective day-to-day operations of the Education department.
This position is responsible for ensuring the high-quality delivery of curriculum and excellent implementation of Education programs and events.
The Education Manager is also responsible for developing, coaching and supervising of Educators as they facilitate a diverse range of playful learning experiences both within the Museum and throughout the broader community.
Essential Functions/Major
Responsibilities:
Staff management Motivate Educators to expand the Museum experience through playful learning offerings for children, families, school groups and youth organizations, and to consistently deliver these offerings with excellence by exemplifying the Museum's belief in learning through play.
Supervise and support the team of Educators as they perform their daily teaching responsibilities.
Mentor Educators in playful learning, deepening their knowledge and capacities by sharing research and practical guidance on playful learning and teaching methodologies.
Coach Educators to develop individualized goals and meet one-on-one with Educators to track their progress on achieving these goals.
Keep track of Educators' scheduled work hours to ensure they are effectively and efficiently using their working time to advance the Department's goals through teaching assignments, related preparation, and other projects as assigned by the Education Manager and/or Director of Education.
In coordination with the Director of Education, regularly evaluate Educators' teaching and delivery of playful learning activities to identify areas of excellence as well as opportunities to improve.
Address day-to-day staff issues and concerns, bringing ongoing or unresolved issues to the Director of Education.
Play an active role in ongoing recruiting, hiring and training Education staff, volunteers and interns.
Complete performance reviews of Educators.
Place Educators in one-time or ongoing teaching assignments and communicate work schedules.
Assist Educators with required tracking of hours for payroll and grants; correct and sign off on Educator timesheets and submit to Payroll.
Ensure adequate staff coverage for all Education programs, filling in or finding substitutions as needed.
Champion the Museum's commitment to continuous improvement, and proactively identify for the Director of Education opportunities for improvements within the department.
Teaching Gain a thorough understanding of Imagine's Education curriculum.
Occasionally prepare and teach classes and programs according to the curriculum.
Occasionally present programs both at the Museum and at offsite locations.
Materials Procure curriculum materials and supplies as requested.
Assign materials prep tasks to volunteers and/or Educators.
Check curriculum bins and supply areas for organization and supplies.
Program Growth and Improvement In consultation with Museum leaders, identify areas for targeted program growth, including opportunities for revenue-generating programs.
Where needed and under guidance of the Director of Education, research and develop curriculum for new programs and revise existing program curriculum.
Develop and implement strategies for outreach to families, schools and organizations not currently served by Imagine programming.
Work with Museum management to develop and revise marketing strategies, create fresh marketing materials, and train Educators and Reservations staff to promote Imagine programming.
Reach out to and meet with school and organizational leaders in the community (e.
g.
, teachers, principals, school district personnel, education foundation leaders, child-focused nonprofit leaders); learn about their curriculum needs and priorities; provide information on relevant Imagine programming.
Assist in the administration of surveys to parents/caregivers, students, or other stakeholders in Museum programming.
Compile survey results and report on findings to funders, Museum administration, and/or other stakeholders.
Other duties Contribute to Museum-wide projects and initiatives as assigned.

Education and/or
Experience:
Bachelor's degree in education and/or sufficient experience working in a classroom or an informal learning environment.
1 to 2 years of experience supervising, coaching or mentoring staff, preferably in education or another child-centered field Experience working with children ages 2-12 (or any subset) Supervisory Responsibility:

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
